What is Climate Change?

A change in global or regional climate patterns, caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide from the use of fossil fuels.

Global warming vs Climate change

Global warming refers to the Earth’s rising temperature, while climate change includes warming and the effects of warming - like melting glaciers, extreme weather: heavier rainstorms, frequent droughts, etc.

Global warming is one symptom of the much larger problem of climate change.

Stanford Researchers Have a Plan to Tackle Climate Emergency Worldwide

“We have 95% of the technology we need already, with only solutions for long distance and ocean travel still to be commercialized.” Mark Z. Jacobson, Director of the Atmosphere/Energy Program and professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford University

Renewable energy isn’t perfect, but it’s far better than fossil fuels

Fossil Fuels: The Dirty Facts

“The vast total captured by petrostates and fossil fuel companies since 1970 is $52tn, providing the power to “buy every politician, every system” and delay action on the climate crisis, says Prof Aviel Verbruggen, the author of the analysis. The huge profits were inflated by cartels of countries artificially restricting supply.”

“The IMF found the production and burning of coal, oil and gas was subsidized by $5.9tn in 2020, with not a single country pricing all its fuels sufficiently to reflect their full supply and environmental costs.”

“Today’s documents reveal that the industry has no real plans to clean up its act and is barreling ahead with plans to pump more dirty fuels for decades to come,” House Oversight Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney”

“Now, the first-ever climate change Rico case alleges that international oil and coal companies, their trade associations, and a network of paid thinktanks, scientists and other operatives conspired to deceive the public – specifically residents of Puerto Rico – about the direct link between their greenhouse gas-emitting products and climate change.”

“Global public subsidies for fossil fuels almost doubled to $700bn in 2021, analysis has shown, representing a “roadblock” to tackling the climate crisis.”

“Climate change, air pollution, deforestation and desertification, ocean and sea health, the loss of biodiversity or microplastics are some of the greatest challenges we face in relation to the health of the planet, but especially to the health and well-being of children and adolescents.”

“According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 88% of the burden of disease attributable to climate change will correspond to children under 5 years, despite the fact that this group only constitutes 12% of the global human population.
